Frequently asked questions

Should I buy or hire a container?

The main question to ask yourself is whether you should buy or hire a shipping container. This can be a tricky decision if you’re unfamiliar with the costs involved or not completely sure on how long you need it for. For this we generally advise the following:

Do you need it for longer than 18 months? If yes…
We would usually recommend to customers that they buy rather than hire. Of course, this always depends on your budget. We are happy to rent containers for 10+ years if this is what the customer wants and suits their cash flow. For longer hire periods we can offer better hire rates.

Do you need it for less than 18 months? If yes…
The costs of hiring a container are a lot lower than purchasing for anything under 18 months. We would, therefore, recommend that you hire a container. If you are unsure as to which option is best for you, please get in touch with our specialist team.

Do you deliver containers for hire?

Yes. In fact, that is our preference for hire containers! At OZBOX we try to make the hiring process as smooth and easy as possible for our customers.

We can easily arrange container hire right across Victoria with our depots located nationwide. We will happily organise the delivery of the shipping container if you require it and will pick it up at the end of the term.

Is there a minimum term for hire?

Most of our containers require a minimum of 2 months hire fees. Of course, you can have it for one day but you will be charged a 2 month minimum fee.

Retail and Pop up shops are charged on 1 month minimum and Dangerous Goods container require a 3 month minimum.

How quickly can you deliver a container for hire?

In most cases, we can get a container out to you within just a few days of receiving the required paperwork and deposit. However, this can vary depending on your delivery location and the type of box you are hiring.

Do you hire second hand containers?

Yes, you can hire second hand containers as well as new containers with a total of five different types of container ‘grades’ to choose from.

Choosing the right grade is important so spend some time thinking about what your expectations are of the container. If you want your container to look great and keep the neighbours happy then we recommend going with a new one. If appearance is not important, you are on a budget and it doesn’t need to be wind and watertight then you should choose one of the lower grades like an economy grade.

Information about the different grades is available on the container product pages.

Do you also sell containers?

Yes, we offer containers for sale as well as hire within Victoria. Hiring works well for a requirement of less than 18 months, however, if you require one longer, then buying is the way to go.

We sell five different ‘grades’ of container. If you are interested in buying a container, then check out our container sales page
